Birth, Adoption, Placement or Guardianship of a Child

Bringing a new child into your life is something to celebrate, whether it’s a birth, adoption, or placement/guardianship. It can affect your Caleres benefits, too. Here are some decisions to think about.

Be sure to make any benefit change within 30 days of your new family member's arrival.

Health

Want to add your child to your health, dental and vision benefits?

Flexible Spending Accounts

Will you be spending more for day care or unreimbursed health care costs? You might want to increase how much you're putting in your flexible spending accounts.

Life Insurance

A growing family may have you thinking about adding or increasing your supplemental life insurance.

Short-Term Disability

Pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions are eligible for Short-Term Disability benefits.

Understanding Maternity, Adoption and Parental Leave

The three types of leave are separate and can’t be combined:

  • Maternity leave (handled through Short-Term Disability) is for the person physically giving birth.
  • Adoption leave is for a parent – regardless of gender – who is adopting a child.
  • Parental leave is for the father or domestic partner in connection with the birth, adoption or placement of a foster child.
