Understanding Maternity, Adoption and Parental Leave
The three types of leave are separate and can’t be combined:
- Maternity leave (handled through Short-Term Disability) is for the person physically giving birth.
- Adoption leave is for a parent – regardless of gender – who is adopting a child.
- Parental leave is for the father or domestic partner in connection with the birth, adoption or placement of a foster child.
