Change in Employment Status for You, Your Spouse or Domestic Partner

Since benefits eligibility is tied to employment status, you’ll likely have some important decisions to make if you or your spouse has a change in employment status. Here are some examples of changes in employment status:

  • New job
  • Loss of job
  • Change from temporary or part-time to full-time, or vice versa
  • Retirement

Read on to learn about things to consider and be sure to make any benefit changes within 30 days of the change in employment status. If you are leaving or retiring from Caleres be sure to also check out the following helpful documents:

Health

Depending on the situation, you may want to add or remove yourself, your spouse/domestic partner or your children from your health, dental or vision benefits. For example, if your spouse/domestic partner losses coverage, you may want to add him/her to your plans. Or maybe your spouse/domestic partner was hired full time, and you want to be added to his/her plans.

Note: Your coverage will end on your last day with Caleres. You may be able to continue coverage under COBRA. You also may have deductions withheld on your final paycheck.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Will you be spending more or less for day care or unreimbursed health care costs as a result of the change in employment status? You might want to change how much you’re putting in your flexible spending accounts.

Note: Your contributions will end on your last day with Caleres.

Life Insurance

If a change in employment status occurs, you may want to start, stop, increase or decrease your supplemental life insurance. To make changes, contact MDFCaleres@ceridian.com or call 1-866-279-4357.

Note: Your company-provided coverage will end on your last day with Caleres. You may be able to continue supplemental coverage by completing the portability form. You also may be able to convert your basic life insurance by completing the conversion form.

401(k)

A change in employment status can change your retirement savings goals. To review your benefits and consider changes, contact Principal or call 1-800-547-7754.

Note: Contributions and loan repayments to your 401(k) will end on your last day with Caleres. You’ll get communication from Principal about your options.

Address Change

If your change in employment status results in a move, be sure to let Caleres know your new address through Ceridian Dayforce. This is especially important if you are retiring or leaving Caleres, so that you can ensure you continue receiving related transition information.

Tax Withholding

A change employment status may affect your tax withholding choices. You may make this change through Ceridian Dayforce.

Vacation/PTO

When you leave Caleres, PTO will not be paid out to you on your final paycheck, unless required by law. Unused paid sick time will not be paid out unless you are an hourly associate.
