Time for yourself

Caleres offers unpaid leave options for personal and urgent matters.

For more information about all leave options, view the Leave of Absence policy and Leave of Absence Process Map.

You may use personal, sick or vacation time to continue receiving pay during an unpaid leave. If you qualify for a paid leave of absence, such as Adoption Leave, you’ll receive your pay in the same form as usual.

You’ll continue receiving any benefits you’ve enrolled in. If you’ll be on an unpaid leave for more than one month, Caleres will send you a bill for your portion of the premium.

Personal Leave

After using your paid time off (PTO), you may find it necessary to take additional unpaid time off to pursue personal matters. Personal leave is subject to approval by your supervisor and will be considered based on the reason for and length of the leave, the impact of the leave on your department's service to clients and workload, and any federal, state or local laws. You must be with the company at least 90 days before requesting a personal leave.

You are not guaranteed employment upon return from a Personal Leave. The company will make every effort to place you in a comparable job when the leave expires, depending on the company’s operational needs at the time.

Length of leave

You may request up to 30 days. After 30 days, if additional time is needed, talk with your HRBP.

Domestic Violence Leave

If you have been employed for at least three months, you may be eligible for a domestic violence leave if you or a family or household member is a victim of domestic violence.

Length of leave

You may be eligible for up to three working days of unpaid leave in a 12-month period.

Reasons to use this type of leave

The leave is meant for you to seek legal, medical or safety assistance. This may include:

  • Seeking an injunction for protection against domestic violence, including repeat, dating or sexual violence
  • Obtaining medical care and/or mental health counseling for yourself or a family or household member to address physical or psychological injuries resulting from domestic violence
  • Making your home secure from the perpetrator or seeking new housing to escape the perpetrator
  • Seeking legal assistance to address issues arising from domestic violence or attending and preparing for court-related proceedings arising from domestic violence

Speak with your supervisor at least 30 days in advance of the requested leave, unless there is imminent danger to your health and safety or that of a family or household member. Where possible, provide documentation as to the act of domestic violence when requesting such a leave. All parties must keep such information confidential.
