You may use personal, sick or vacation time to continue receiving pay during an unpaid leave. If you qualify for a paid leave of absence, such as Short-Term Disability, you’ll receive your pay in the same form as usual.

You’ll continue receiving any benefits you’ve enrolled in. If you’ll be on an unpaid leave for more than one month, Caleres will send you a bill for your portion of the premium.

How would you pay your bills if you got sick or injured and couldn’t work? Disability coverage can help replace some of your regular pay.

Caleres offers two types of disability coverage: Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability.

Medical Leave

If you have a personal illness or medical reason to take a leave, you may file for a Medical Leave of Absence under the Caleres, Inc. Short-Term Disability benefit.

Eligibility

You must be actively working at time of plan eligibility to receive these benefits, which are paid in accordance with your pay cycle.

View the length of medical leave and benefit amount you’re eligible for based on your role and years of service. Length of leave is subject to approval. 

Retail associates, and manufacturing associates are eligible after 1 year of continuous employment. The weekly benefit provided is $385 for 16 weeks. This amount may be reduced by other income benefits.

Note:

  • If your STD claims is approved, benefits are payable on the 15th consecutive day of your disability.
  • If you wish to receive pay during the first 14 days of your disability, you must use sick, personal or vacation time.
  • You may use Family and Medical Leave to extend your time off.

Full-time Caleres distribution center hourly associates are eligible after one year of continuous employment. The weekly benefit is $385 for 13 weeks if caused by injury or 16 weeks if caused by sickness. This amount may be reduced by other income benefits.

  • If your STD claims is approved, benefits are payable on the 8th consecutive day of your disability.
  • If you wish to receive pay during the first 14 days of your disability, you must use sick, personal or vacation time.
  • You may use Family and Medical Leave to extend your time off.

All associates paid through the corporate offices, distribution center management associates and Famous Footwear/Naturalizer regional directors of sales and district sales managers are eligible after six months of continuous employment.

Note:

  • If you're enrolled in other Caleres, Inc. benefits, premium deductions will be withheld.
  • If your disability continues for 180 calendar days, you may be eligible for Long-Term Disability. This is an optional benefit that you must select and pay for.
  • This plan coordinates with Family and Medical Leave on matters of time off and job continuation.

Full-time associates, store managers, associate managers and assistant managers are eligible after one year of continuous employment.
