Life Events

Life happens. You manage. And Caleres can help, with handy tools and updates to your benefits at just the right time. Review dependent eligibility and take a few minutes to think about how the following qualified family status change life events affect your benefits.

  • If you experience a qualified family status change, be sure to make any benefit changes within 30 days of the event.
  • Any change you make has to be consistent with the family status change. Let’s say you were in a Caleres health plan, and your spouse was enrolled in his own employer’s plan. If your spouse lost his job or health plan eligibility, you could add him to your health plan coverage mid-year. But you wouldn’t be able to change the plan you chose until the next open enrollment period.
  • You must provide documentation to support the type of qualifying change, as well as the effective date. If you are adding a Domestic Partner, the Domestic Partner packet (and supporting documentation) must be attached as well. This document is located on the Benefits Overview page.
  • After your request has been reviewed, you will receive a notification through Dayforce that your request has been approved or denied. If you are approved, you will be required to elect or cancel applicable benefit coverage (i.e. medical, dental, vision etc.).
  • In most cases, the effective date of the enrollment/termination is the date of the life status event.
